Every time I hear the scripture “No weapon formed against us shall prosper”, I think of We the Kingdom’s “Don’t Tread on Me.”
That song is such a battle cry. When I’m struggling and feel the enemy trying to really weasel his way into every aspect of my life, my favorite thing is to crank up this song and sing/scream it at the top of my lungs. Guaranteed to feel better each time!
I’d like to break down this verse with y’all and hopefully offer more insight of what it actually means and how we can apply it to our lives.
Isaiah 54:17a “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you… “
There WILL be weapons. When you became a daughter of the King, you were promised His blessings. It also means you inherit His enemies as well.
Ephesians 6:12 tells us who is behind the weapons: the rulers, authorities and the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. It actually says that our struggle isn’t against flesh and blood BUT against that long list of evilness I just listed.
The enemy will do everything in his power to knock you off the straight and narrow. The devil ain’t after the non-believers, y’all. He is after YOU. Don’t let that scare you. It’s a good thing, because it means you’re ON the right track! James 1:2-3, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” The enemy is scared of YOU. I know, I can hear you laugh from here. He is afraid of all the goodness you are going to do for the Lord’s kingdom, and the devil is a sore loser.
Forged…some versions say “formed”, but NIV says “forged”. Forged is defined as something that is created, made, shaped. The devil doesn’t attack everyone in the same way. He makes the perfect weapon to try and “neutralize” you against the kingdom of God.
Now, let’s define Prevail…

So yes, while there will be weapons, none of them will be victorious against you.
What a sigh of relief, right?
“you will refute every tongue that accuses you… “
Now, on to the second snippet of the scripture… refuting. To refute simply means to disprove (or to prove that someone is wrong).
People can talk ALLLL the want about you; but the truth will ALWAYS be brought to light. (Luke 8:17) It’s just all in God’s timing and sometimes that can frustrate us mere humans so much!
I hope this breakdown helps you to understand this verse better. Soon we will talk about ways to stand firm against that sneaky snake who tries to knock us off course.
